KEYNOTE SPEAKER Radio Imaging Instrumentation Quality Control for Maintenance: Metrological Characterization for hardware and outcomes processing

ABSTRACT

The diagnostic instrumentation used in radiology, for biomedical applications, and well as for industrial ones, needs regular and pre-established maintenance cycles to keep it efficient. Quality control is a series of measurement and characterization to be carried out in the effort to evaluate the outcome performance. The interested instrumentation is generally based on X-rays, CT, NMR, PET-CT, SPECT, Scintigraphy, and for treatment, we have to include linear accelerators. A lack of quality control activities can heavily affect the instrumentation operating modes, and perhaps the patient conditions. After verifying and testing the instruments/machines, it is also necessary to check the quality of the outcomes, that is, the images. The lecture proposes some practical examples in terms of hardware measurements, and the assessment of the results delivered by the equipment. The norms and technical legislations are mandatory for the experts working in this field.

Aimé Lay-Ekuakille uzyskał pierwszy stopień doktora nauk medycznych w zakresie inżynierii elektronicznej na Uniwersytecie w Bari we Włoszech w 1988 r., drugi stopień doktora nauk medycznych w zakresie inżynierii klinicznej na Uniwersytecie w L'Aquili we Włoszech w 2002 r., tytuł doktora nauk medycznych w zakresie zarządzania środowiskiem i warunków sanitarnych w Instytucie IFAD w Kinszasie w Demokratycznej Republice Konga w 2020 r. oraz tytuł doktora nauk elektronicznych na Politechnice w Bari w 2001 r. Od 2000 r. jest pracownikiem Wydziału Inżynierii Innowacji na Uniwersytecie w Salento we Włoszech i dyrektorem Laboratorium Instrumentacji i Pomiarów. Prof. Aimé Lay-Ekuakille jest starszym członkiem IEEE. Jego główne obszary badawcze to: Instrumentacja i pomiary dla zastosowań biomedycznych, środowiskowych i przemysłowych, czujniki i systemy czujników, nanotechnologia, sztuczna inteligencja dla instrumentacji i pomiarów oraz starzenie i charakterystyka paneli fotowoltaicznych. Jest autorem i współautorem ponad 360 artykułów na indeksowanych konferencjach i czasopismach międzynarodowych, a także 5 książek międzynarodowych. Pełni funkcję starszego redaktora czasopisma Measurement: Food (Elsevier), redaktora Measurement (Elsevier, NL), redaktora Measurement: Sensors (Elsevier, NL), zastępcy redaktora IEEE Sensors Journal (USA), redaktora IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience, zastępcy redaktora International Journal on Smart Sensing and Intelligent Systems (USA), zastępcy redaktora Mathematical Problems in Engineering publikowanego przez Hindawi (UK) oraz członka kilku międzynarodowych czasopism, takich jak Sensors (Mdpi, CH), American Journal of Biomedical Engineering publikowanego przez SAP (USA) oraz Medical Robotics (HK, China). Prof. Aimé Lay-Ekuakille jest przewodniczącym Imeko TC19 ds. pomiarów środowiskowych, przewodniczącym IEEE IMS TC34 ds. instrumentów i pomiarów w nanotechnologii oraz przewodniczącym Nanosensors TC w ramach włoskiego oddziału IEEE Sensors Council. Jest również aktywnym członkiem Włoskiego Instytutu Robotyki i Inteligentnych Maszyn (I-RIM), będąc współprzewodniczącym zespołu ds. robotyki wspomagającej, rehabilitacji i medycyny fizycznej. Został zaliczony do 2% najlepszych naukowców na świecie w 2020 roku przez Uniwersytet Stanforda (USA):

Jest promotorem różnych doktorantów we Włoszech i na uniwersytetach międzynarodowych. Nadal pełni funkcję konsultanta naukowego dla instytucji krajowych i międzynarodowych.

Aimé Lay-Ekuakille (SM'12), received the first M.D. degree in Electronic Engineering (control technology and automation) from the University of Bari, Bari, Italy, in 1988, the second M.D. degree in Clinical Engineering from the University of L’Aquila, L’Aquila, Italy, in 2002, a M.D. (h.c.) in Environmental Management and Sanitation from IFAD Institute, Kinshasa, DRC in 2020, and a Ph.D in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Bari, in 2001. From 1989 up to 2000, he was serving as Technical Top Manager for private and public institutions in the following main areas: construction and maintenance of industrial plants, Environment, Biomedicine, Nuclear for civil and heath applications, Robotics, and Instrumentation. He is with the Dept of Innovation Engineering, University of Salento, Italy, since 2000, and the Director of Instrumentation and Measurement Lab I. Prof. Aimé Lay-Ekuakille is a Senior Member of IEEE. His main areas of research are: (i) Instrumentation and Measurements for Biomedical, Environmental and Industrial applications, (ii) Sensors and Sensing Systems, (iii) Nanotechnology, (iv) Artificial intelligence for Instrumentation and Measurement, and (v) Ageing and Characterization of Photovoltaic Panels. He authored and co-authored more than 360 papers on indexed international conferences and journals, as well as 5 international books. He serves as, Senior Editor of Measurement: Food (Elsevier, NL), Editor of Measurement Journal (Elsevier, NL), Editor of Measurement: Sensors (Elsevier, NL), Associate Editor of IEEE Sensors Journal (USA), Editor of IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience, Associate Editor of International Journal on Smart Sensing and Intelligent Systems (USA), Associate Editor of Mathematical Problems in Engineering published by Hindawi (UK), and Editor of Sensors (Mdpi, CH), Board member of American Journal of Biomedical Engineering published by SAP (USA), and Medical Robotics (HK, China). Prof. Aimé Lay-Ekuakille is the Chairman of Imeko TC19 on Environmental Measurements, Chairman of IEEE IM Society TC34 on Instrumentation and Measurement in Nanotechnology, IEEE IMS Representative within IEEE Nanotechnology Council, and Chairman of the Nanosensors TC within the Italian chapter of IEEE Sensors Council. He is also an active member of the Italian Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Machines (I-RIM), being the co-Chair of the WG on Assistive, Rehabilitation & Physical Medicine Robotics. He has been included in the 2020 Top 2% of the best world scientists by the University of Stanford (USA):
